About the Library

History of the Corwith Library

The Corwith Library was started in 1923 by Kathryn Fillmore, the wife of the town’s local doctor. Kathryn began collecting books and volunteering as the librarian. Over time the book collection grew and the library expanded programs.

In the 1950’s the Corwith Iowanna Club began sponsoring story time. The library fundraisers to include bake sales and ice cream socials brought people in the community together.

In 2004 a new Corwith library was opened, the old building now houses the Iowa State Bank. The new Corwith Library shares the building with the city hall and post office. Many fundraisers and donations were received. E. Lucille Miller donated $101,477.00 towards the building. She was our Corwith Postmaster for many years an avid reader and supporter of the library activities.

The library still provides activities and programs for the community. The library may also be used for small group meetings, birthday and movie events.
