Circulation Policy
Purpose: Ensures all patrons have a valid library card and follow the policy and practices of borrowing materials from the library.
Scope: Applies to all people using the Corwith Public library.
Guidelines:
Library cards are available to all residents of Hancock County and the State of Iowa. The adult patron requesting a card must complete the library application, provide valid Identification: driver’s license, student ID, or other official ID, phone number, address (either street address or post office box) if available and email address as applicable. Children 13 years old and under may obtain a library card but must be enrolled in kindergarten or above and complete the library application. Library application must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. The parent or legal guardian must provide valid identification. Children may be added to an adult library card as requested.
Circulation of Materials:
1. All patrons must bring their library cards to check out library materials.
2. Books, periodicals, and audiobooks may be checked out for fourteen (14) days
The book check out limit is 25 books per patron and 4 DVD’s/Blue-Ray per patron.
3. DVDs and Blue-Rays may be checked out for seven (7) days. PG-13 and R-rated check out of materials will be monitored by parents or legal guardians, not by the library staff.
4. Some reference materials are not allowed to be checked out and must be read in the library.
5. Items owned by this library may be renewed twice unless they are more than thirty (30) days overdue or requested by another patron.
8. Patrons may ask to have books or materials reserved for them. Names will be placed on a waiting list in the order of request made. Patrons will be notified when requested materials are ready to check out by phone or email.
9. Equipment and technology may be available to check out based on the
library’s inventory. (Wi-Fi may be used by patrons during library hours.)
10. Interlibrary loans are due to be returned on the date indicated by the borrowing library.
Overdue Materials:
1. Corwith Public Library does not charge fines for overdue materials. However, patrons are expected to return materials by their due dates to ensure that all library users have equitable access to materials. Non-returned items will be charged the price to replace the item with the patron.
2. Each borrower, including employees, is responsible for keeping the library up to date on their current information including mailing address, phone number, or email address. Each borrower, including employees, is responsible for all materials checked out on their card. Library materials shall be loaned out by policy.

Corwith Public Library adheres strictly to Code of Iowa, Chapter 22.7 (13)
The records of a library which, by themselves or when examined with other public records, would reveal the identity of the library patron checking out or requesting an item or information from the library. The records shall be released to a criminal or juvenile justice agency only pursuant to an investigation of a particular person or organization suspected of committing a known crime. The records shall be released only upon a judicial determination that a rational connection exists between the requested release of information and a legitimate end and that the need for the information is cogent and compelling.
