Program Policy

Purpose:

The purpose of this Library Program Policy is to outline the principles and procedures for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs offered by the library. These programs are designed to promote library materials, facilities, or services, as well as offering the community an informational, entertaining, cultural experience and lifelong learning improving literacy.

General Policy:

Programs may be developed and presented by library staff, independent contractors or may be co-sponsored or in partnership with other city departments or community organizations. Programs may take place at the library, at other locations in the community or on-line.

All attendees are expected to adhere to the library policies including patron conduct and unattended children’s policy.

 

Responsibility of Programming

1. The library trustees delegate development, presentation and evaluation of programs to the Library Director and those members of the staff delegated by the director for responsible duties.

 

Types of Library Programs

1. Book Discussions

2. Storytime

3. Summer reading programs

4. Author visits and readings

5. Lectures and presentations

6. Demonstrations and workshops

7. Open houses

8. Enrichment activities.

Presentation of a program does not constitute the library’s endorsement of the content or views expressed by the presenter or participants.

 

Attendance

1. All programs will be open to the public.

2. Programs for general audience have no age restriction.

3. Parent’s may not leave their children under 5 yr. unattended.

4. Attendance may be limited if there is room capacity.

5. Programs designed for specific audiences may have attendance restrictions or requirements based on age.

 

Program Fees

1. Most library programs are offered free of charge.

2. When a fee is necessary to cover the cost of materials or special instructors, it will be clearly communicated in advance.

 

Liability

1. The library does not assume responsibility for any damage, personal injury, illness or theft from participating in any program or in any facility or location where the library program was held.

 

 

Program Evaluation

1. Programs will be regularly evaluated through attendance records, participant feedback, and staff review to ensure they meet community needs.

2. Adjustments will be made as needed to programs based on program evaluation assessments.
